Hi Char, I hope you're not upset with me because of my comments about your web site. This is about something completely different.
I hadn't thought to ask you this directly, but I got a PM from one of your friends and he suggested I ask you about the CD I gave you in Chicago, Happy Rhodes's Many Worlds Are Born Tonight. He said you loved it, and I think I smothered him in exclamation points in my reply to him. Words cannot express what that means to me. You have such wicked great taste in music, that I knew if you listened to it at a time when the listening was optimal, you'd love it. Your friend made my year, let me tell you!
My actual question is: I'd love it if you could tell me when/where you got a chance to hear it, and what about it caught your attention.
I give away CDs all the time, and have had the chance to give them to a lot of famous people, and you are the only famous person, through the years, that I know has actually listened to it. And you like it!! Someone please catch me as I swoon!
Forgive me for my fannish excitement, but I've been a fan since 1988, and she's so obscure and unknown (she lives in upstate New York and has a day job), I can't help being gleeful that someone else that I admire so much (you!) is listening to her.
Anyway, thanks tons to the friend who wrote me. If you want to hear any songs from her earlier albums, I keep a samples page at http://wretchawry.com/happy/samples, and there was a thread in the Other Artists section.
It might be a while before you make it back to Chicago, but I'm going to push my luck here and request that you please please please consider covering a Happy Rhodes song. In her almost 20 year/11 albums career, no professional musician has ever covered Happy. You would be the first. Only Kate, Peter or Tori covering Happy would make me as ecstatic, and any of them ever doing it is highly unlikely.
Thank you for listening to Happy, and for tolerating my blabbling.
Vickie
