The songs are back! I recently got a web host that offers unlimited space(!) and I aim to test that offer to the limits. The bandwidth isn't unlimited, but I do have 50gb a month, and all of these songs together only add up to less than 3gb. If my bandwidth ever starts looking dangerous, I'll post a "hold off" notice. If my web host suddenly decides "HEY! WE DIDN'T **REALLY** MEAN UNLIMITED!" the songs might well disappear. We'll see about that.

I'm going to take up the first several posts as "placeholders" because there's a limit on how big posts can be. In the old Suspended In Gaffa thread I had to split the songs up, and they weren't together. I want to make sure I have enough room in the first several posts to play with. So, I know it'll look weird that I'm posting in my own thread several times, but those posts will be filled with songs.

I'm still in the process of uploading songs, and luckily I had a copy of my old post, so to change the links I just did a Search and Replace. Everything won't be tested right away, so you might come across broken links. Please tell me if you do, but hold off a day or so until I get everything uploaded. 

Right now I'm just posting them in the same order/way they were before. I reserve the right to move things around. I know I want separate posts for specific people. I just have to figure out how I want to do it.

I apologise for letting the old thread die, even when Sean was nice enough to sticky it. I didn't have control of the mp3s so when the links died, I just let the thread fade away, right there in plain sight. It's not Yngve's fault, he lost his access. It was my fault for letting, at various times, apathy, depression, flakiness and me being me keep me from paying attention, keeping up, answering posts. I can be a regular disappearing act (Peter and Krys know. Why they like me anyway is beyond me :) ) I frustrate and confuse a lot of people a lot of the time. That's me all over. I only say this stuff because if it happens again, you should be prepared. :) We'll see what happens.

Hey there, all you nice Kate Bush-loving music lovers!

As some people know, I used to have a radio show called Suspended In Gaffa. It ran for 6 years on one radio station, 4 years on another, and a variation of it ran on Internet Shoutcast off and on for a few years. The main reason I loved producing my radio show was that I could program it with lots of female artists that listeners might not have heard before, or at least, heard played on the radio. I miss playing music for people. The radio show is long gone, and thanks to our DSL ISP being run out of business, the Shoutcast is no more.

What I can do though, as long as I'm allowed, is offer various mp3s so people can hear some of the artists talked about in the Other Artists section. I've upped my amount of web space, and as long as I'm not blatant about it, and stay away from high profile artists (so, no Norah Jones, no Tori, well, maybe some rarities sometimes) this might work. For a while.

I'd like to stick to artists who are more obscure and harder to find, but I'll put up a more known artist for a short time if someone hasn't heard them and requests them (for instance, perhaps someone has heard of Sinead O'Connor, but not heard her. There's a first time for everybody).  Even I'm limited though, in space and mp3s. I have a lot of mp3s, almost all from my own CD collection, but there are hundreds of artists I don't have. Since Napster shut down, I don't do the file sharing programs (like Kaaza, or however it's spelled) so I can't just go and get someone. I will take requests if I have the/an mp3 to play. Please forgive me in advance if I have to say no a lot.

I culled through other threads, made notes of artists and picked out selections by artists that I knew I had (I do read, I just can't always respond with anything articulate). I have more, but not the space to put them all up at once. The mp3s will be ever-changing, so if you want them, get them while you can and check back. Feel free to discuss them, and also let me know if a link is bad.

I won't put up files by artists who have spoken out against file sharing, as long as I know about it. That would include artists such as Aimee Mann and Kristen Hersh. If you see someone on my list, and you've seen an article where that person spoke out against Napster or other file-sharing programs, please let me know. I'll take them down and won't put them back up. Thanks!



Kate is far and away my main #1 head honcho musical Goddess. She's been my main musical Deity since 1980 (or thereabouts) and she always will be. But, after her, I'm a die-hard [link=www.auntiesocialmusic.com newwindow]Happy Rhodes[/link] fan so there will always be more Happy Rhodes mp3s than anyone else, enough so that she'll have her own thread. It just has to be that way. I'm besotted. What can I say? She's so indie she puts the I in the word indie (she has a day job!), so people aren't likely to be as exposed to her elsewhere. These are for people who would never click on the Happy Rhodes thread.
