Used to mildly enjoy some KB stuff and found a few of her ideas relatively interesting, though some of it makes me want to take a sledgehammer to the stereo ("Sat In Your Lap"...the fuck?).
Ha, the fuck? The fuck is, I think, a fascinating song, musically and lyrically. The album The Dreaming is my (this deserves caps) All Time Favorite Album by anybody, not just Kate, so of course I'm very partial to it. Kate takes work. Even her catchy, more poppy songs have things going on that can be found by a bit of digging. Her least accessible songs (my favorites), such as SIYL and The Dreaming song, take many multiple listens before they even begin to sort themselves out in your head. I'm not qualified to talk about the music of Sat In Your Lap, I just know I like it. Lyrically it's about laziness, how we'd like to be smart and know things, but that takes work. It's about wanting instant gratification of knowledge, how the more you learn about something you don't know the more you realize there is to know about the subject. It's also about depression and how it can make the search for knowledge even harder. Some of my favorite bits: I've been doing it for years. My goal is moving near. It says, "Look! I'm over here." Then it up and disappears. In my dome of ivory, A home of activity, I want the answers quickly, But I don't have no energy.
